about aire psychology

aire psychology provides counselling services to Lake Macquarie & Newcastle.

Founded in 2016, it provides a client centred approach, and a broad range of tools for a diverse client base.

Skye Stewart is a Registered Psychologist with a broad experience, including (but not limited to) trauma, emergency services and defence, banks and the corporate sector, local government, small medium and large organisations in the private sector, disability, pain, grief, bullying, self esteem, addiction, anxiety and depression. She has provided face to face counselling, telephone counselling, on-site debriefing and psychological first aid, mediations, and presented in training and workshops for a variety of psychological subjects.

She has worked as a fully Registered Psychologist since 2001, in small private practice, then in a national provider of EAP and Critical Incident Support based in Sydney. After relocating to the Newcastle Hunter Region, she worked in a medium size private practice as the Senior Psychologist before working full time for a state government organisation. In 2016, she founded aire psychology part time to provide counselling services to the general public once more.

Her style tends to be common sense, informal and relaxed, with a focus on what might be realistic in effecting change. Positive psychology, a strengths based approach and a focus on empowering people to better cope and to help themselves are features within this style.

She is a generalist psychologist, and as such may choose to refer a client for more specialised treatment.

Counselling focuses on the emotional, social, work, study and physical health concerns people may have at different stages in their lives with attention paid to stressors and severe issues people struggle with on a day to day basis. Whilst it can provide management tools, coping strategies and tools to resolve or address ongoing mental health issues, it can also be of great benefit for assisting people in alleviating distress. Counselling can provide a different, objective perspective, in a confidential setting. It can provide an additional source of support during challenges, with someone trained to assist in managing problems and distress.

It can be effective for people wishing to better understand their thoughts, feelings, reactions and behaviours.

our faqs

Do you provide Court Reports, letters or diagnostic assessments?

No. A letter of attendance can be provided, however whilst the appropriate and required reports or letters under the Medicare Mental Health Care Plan or NDIS schemes are provided, the focus of Aire Psychology is treatment and therapy.

Urgent/Crisis

Aire Psychology is not a crisis service. For urgent and critical care, please attend your closest hospital, contact your closest Mental Health Crisis Team, or Lifeline for 24 hour telephone counselling.

Are you registered with NDIS or Medicare?

I am registered with Medicare and so anyone wishing to access counselling through a Mental Health Care Plan, an EPC from their GP.

Registration with NDIS is currently being processed.

Do I need a referral to access counselling?

No. A referral is not necessary.

What are the fees?

Fees from 1st July 2022 will be $170 per session for private and Medicare with Gap sessions.

Aire Psychology no longer bulk bills.

Workers Compensation, CTP and self managed NDIS also available.

If you have a current Mental Health Care Plan from your GP then Medicare will rebate $84.80 of this fee for 10 sessions per calendar year.

You may also use your private health insurance.

If you need to negotiate a lower rate than the full fee, you will need to discuss this with the Psychologist.

If, for some reason, you need to cancel or postpone the appointment, please give at least 24 hours notice, otherwise you may be charged for the cost of the session. Please note that Medicare and other health insurance rebates are not applicable to cancellation fees.

It will also be possible to pre-pay appointments online, if this is more convenient.
